Antarctica - Journey to the end of the world.

In 2019 I was fortunate to sail to the southernmost continent, Antarctica.

I’d always dreamt of visiting the “Great White Continent”. Images from first explorers years ago and tails of incredible expeditions across the icy world always made my imagination run wild but I never really thought I’d make it there myself, let alone set foot on the continent.

Fast forward to March 2019 and I was on my way to Ushuaia Argentina to set off on a 10-day trip to cross the Antarctic Circle. Working on board an expedition ship as a resident photographer, alongside fellow photographers, Paul Zizka, Dave Brosha, Colleen Gara and Curtis Jones, we set off across the Drake Passage as the sign of land faded away.

Violent seas, wild sea birds and the occasional whale kept us company for two days until we caught a glimpse of the first site of land. A tumbling jumble of ice, clinging impossibly to vertical mountains rising from the southern ocean.

My time spent at the bottom of the globe was full of wonder and awe. Icebergs of every shade of blue and as tall as skyscrapers, an abundance of wildlife I didn’t know still existed, and an overwhelming amount of peacefulness I’ve never experienced before.

I still struggle to find words that will ever do my experience in that great land justice, but hopefully, some of my images might show even a small amount of how incredible it is.
